Today, the world is full of too much information, therefore making it hard to differentiate between credible and unreliable information. With the availability of the internet, which has no restriction on what is posted and what it is about, the chance of getting non-credible information is very high. Unlike in the past where people wrote out of passion and knowledge of particular topics, today people write for money and fame. They, therefore, use attractive headlines so that they can attract more clicks since the more the clicks, the more the money they get. There are also credible sources, however, that are on the internet and that are very helpful in any research. In this assignment, I will provide one credible resource and one non-credible resource and why I chose them. The topic of interest is “impact of social media in business marketing.”

The Credible source: Taneja, S., & Toombs, L. (2014). Putting a face on small businesses: Visibility, viability, and sustainability the impact of social media on small business marketing. Academy of marketing studies journal, 18(1), 249.

The source used is peer-reviewed, and in my opinion, it is a credible source of information for my topic of interest. I chose this article because after the article was written by the author, it was subjected to the scrutiny of the experts in that field. It, therefore, means that the article has met the set standards of quality in the business discipline. The source is also credible because it is constant and it cannot be changed by anyone else other than the writer; hence the information in the article will not change hence being used over and over.

Un-reliable source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_media_marketi…

The source of the information is Wikipedia, which I believe is a non-credible source of information. It is unreliable because Wikipedia can be edited by anyone hence the information found there is not constant. The source is also non-credible because there is no name of the author of the work and therefore it cannot be relied on. Since anyone can edit information on Wikipedia, it is easy for it to be incorrect and biased.

It is, therefore, necessary to critically analyze the sources of information, especially on the internet before using them for reference. It is also essential to use more than one source when doing the research.
