Question
CJ1470: Week 1
Determining Physical Evidence and Using SmartDraw
This lab constitutes two parts.
Part 1: Use the ITT Tech Virtual Library to research common types of physical evidence
found at a crime scene. You can also refer to Chapter 3 of your textbook, which will give you
an insight in to various aspects of physical evidence, such as common types of physical
evidence found at a crime scene, identification and comparison of physical evidence, and
individual and class characteristics of physical evidence. Then, in a 1-2 page Word
document:
Define the different types of physical evidence, and Provide a summary of the evidence that would be typically found at a crime scene. Part 2: Use SmartDraw to sketch the crime scene from the case provided. Provide the
possible evidence that may be found and collected at the crime scene. Make sure to mark
each piece of evidence when you sketch the crime scene. Scenario: The police are called to a crime scene on Oak Drive at 12:23 A.M. by a neighbor.
The neighbor had heard a woman scream and shots fired. The police find three bodies at
the scene. The first body, a female between the ages of 18 and 21, is lying face down in a
pool of blood with her pants around her knees. She is found in the front-facing living room,
near a couch and plant toward the back of the living room. The curtains have been drawn,
and several documents and furniture have been thrown about in what looks like a struggle.
The second body, a male between the ages of 16 and 18, is found in the back-facing
bedroom with his hands bound with rope behind his back and a bullet wound to the head.
The male is also facing down, the window in the room is open, and smeared blood is
present on the side of the window pane. The third victim is a female, between the ages of
40 and 45, laying facedown with two bullet wounds to her back, around her heart. She is
found in the left side of the kitchen area, next to a refrigerator, and an unopened bottle of Page 1 CJ1470: Week 1

water is lying close to her body. No weapon is found at the crime scene that would match
the bullet casing found at the scene.
